This stunning, 18k white gold Patek Philippe ‘World Time’ Ref. 5110G-001 from 2004 is in mint condition and has perfect mechanical functionality. It comes with service box, original papers and has been recently serviced.
The world time function has been a complication particularly favoured by collectors. This piece is particularly attractive, excellently proportioned at 37mm in diameter with a subtle, yet intricate guilloché pattern on the inner dial.
Allowing the owner to quickly identify the time zone of 24 different world cities simultaneously, the 5110G is incredibly useful. The multi-faceted dial is made up of two peripheral rotating discs, with the outer disc identifying the city, and the inner disc denoting the respective time-zone.
The time shown at twelve o’clock is local time, with the cities to the East on the right, and the cities to the West on the left. The local time-zone can be easily changed by the pusher at ten o’clock. When the pusher is pressed, three things happen simultaneously: the hour hand advances by one hour, while the city and twenty-four-hour disks move counter-clockwise by one time zone. If the hands previously indicated 10:15 as the local time for London, they now display 11:15 for Geneva.
The case sized at 37mm features smooth straight lugs, and it is quintessentially ‘Calatrava-esque’ in its shape. The hands, new at the time to Patek Philippe, are distinctive in their lozenge-shaped contour and compliment the applied inner hour baton markers perfectly. The centre of the dial features a beautiful hand-guilloché pattern, inspired by Patek Philippe’s past mastery of pocket watches.
Powered by the ultra-thin calibre 240HU (‘Heure Universelle’), this self-winding movement features an elegant 22K gold micro-rotor, allowing a height below 3.9mm; despite the multiple time zone mechanism, placed dial-side on top of the movement. The movement a spiromax balance spring made of silicon-based silinvar, working in conjunction with a Gyromax balance wheel. The 240HU calibre movement is beautifully finished, with finely applied Geneva stripes, perlage and anglage, and exquisite chamfering on all angles; this exceptional movement assembly revealed by the inclusion of a sapphire display case-back.
This watch comes on a navy blue Patek Philippe alligator strap with lightly contrasting blue stitching, along with its original Patek Philippe deployant clasp in 18k white gold, matching the case.
