The Patek Philippe Aquanaut was released in 1997, and was the first Patek Philippe to be released with a rubber strap. It is a classic time-only watch, with the added benefit of having a date aperture at 3 o’clock. The black checkerboard dial, matching the pattern on the strap, is embossed with silver applied numerals and luminescent hour markers.
Sized at 39.3 X 37 mm, the watch both feels and looks perfectly proportioned on the wrist. It has the classic Aquanaut brushed bezel, contrasting with its polished bevelled edges, showing a high level of finishing. Based on the Nautilus, the Aquanaut case is made of three parts, which allows for both a sapphire display-back and water resistance of up to 120m. To ensure the latter, the watch also features a screw-down crown and a rubber Patek Philippe strap.
This Patek Philippe Aquanaut is powered by the self-winding calibre 315 SC. Started in 1984, it is a now highly-venerated movement. Its reliability comes from a reduced oscillation of 21,600 A/h, giving it more durability than its predecessor, the Cal. 310. It has 29 jewels and the finishing features Genevian stripes and the Genevian seal.
Viewings can be arranged by appointment in Central London.
